Want to know more?
Andrew Easton, host of The Good Life EDU podcast, recently interviewed Pamela Brezenski, EdD, project manager for Get SET Nebraska, to learn more about the program and the importance of supporting, empowering and retaining special education teachers.
Listen to the full episode: “Get SET Nebraska’s Support of Special Education Teachers.”
Conversation highlights
Their conversation highlights the program’s goals, benefits to schools/districts, and connections guiding the structure of the program, including its two main components:
1. Administrative Leadership Academy
The GET SET Administrative Leadership Academy provides administrators national and statewide data related to shortages, opportunities to learn support strategies and activities to create a district special education retention plan. Administrators will have access to online modules and materials to support scheduling. Personal support is provided for administrators to use this information to lead mentoring and induction in their schools or districts.
2. Induction and Mentoring Program
Participating schools have access to an evidenced-based, structured special education induction and mentoring program. Each school has a team comprised of an administrator, professional level special education teacher (mentor) and early career special education teacher (mentee) who work together and engage in the program for one academic year. Teams work through information sharing, problem-solving and skill building activities on a monthly basis.
Brezenski also shares different ways Get SET Nebraska is highly responsive and adaptable to meet the unique needs of Nebraska schools and districts, such as offering:
- Convenient, on demand access to materials to meet scheduling and planning needs.
- An effective mentor match process that can be tailored to each school/district’s needs (alternatives to in school mentors).
- Support from a dedicated project manager who guides participants through the program and is available for questions as needed.
Special thanks to Andrew Easton for the opportunity to share information about Get SET Nebraska on the podcast.
